Double sided Kangaroo leather strop, with latigo nubuck leather on backside fixed on fine hickory paddle. Leather cord is installed for easy handling and storing.
Leather: This is 100% genuine vegetable tanned Kangaroo Leather 2oz-3oz thickness. Although it is much thinner compared to other leathers don’t let that fool you. This leather has about 10 times the tensile strength as cowhide.
Characteristics: Kangaroo hide has a highly uniform orientation of fibre bundles parallel to the skin surface. (unique as cow hide fibres are arranged in complex patterns and as much as 90 degrees to the skins surface.) Kangaroo also does not contain sweat glands or pours creating an even, smooth, strong surface. This structural uniformity creates an exceptional stropping leather.
A latigo nubuck leather is used for the backside of the strop, as it outperforms suede side of Kangaroo hide. It has an excellent nap and smoothness resulting in a superior choice for suede stropping. Well suited for loading compound and blade cleaning.
Kangaroo Leather is exceptionally well suited for Carbon Steel.
Leather is placed on hickory slabs for its quality, weight, and stability while stropping.
Due to the nature of leather and hickory wood some strops may have minor characteristic variations as to one ones in the photos.
All strops are 100% handmade, crafted and designed by Benjamin Adams, Colorado, US.
Dimensions: The strop paddle is 13"x2.5", the leather measures 10"x2.5".
Strops are designed and sized for all round use from pocket knifes to larger blades & razors.
Leather stropping is used as a final step in the knife sharpening process and also for blade maintenance. Stropping removes the burrs left on a blade's edge while creating a mirror polish on the bevel. Using a leather strop will maintain a razor edge if used regularly.
